Holland Theater seeks to light up marquee – Peak of Ohio

By Kris Allen

The Holland Theater is seeking a facelift with a $220,000 Challenge grant from the Jeffris Foundation. The theater officially kicked off its Marquee fundraising campaign last night. The marquee, installed at the theater in 1931, will be the final touch of the restoration project started several years ago.

The Jeffris Foundation grant covers one-third of the total cost of the marquee. The balance, $440,000, is to be raised by the theatre. According to Holland Theater Board Chairman Kris Swisher, the committee will spearhead the fundraising campaign over the three years allocated by the Jeffris Grant.

Swisher noted that the amount that needs to be raised is significantly less than what the theater raised during most of the previously completed restoration project. She hopes that the promise to see the marquee illuminated in front of the theater as before will motivate the community to rally behind the project.

Interested supporters can get involved in several ways. There are six different levels of support available in the fundraising campaign. Level One is a Buy-a-Bulb, where individuals or families can purchase a bulb for $100. Tier two fans will be able to purchase the birthday or anniversary announcement on the LED marquee for $100.

Tier three supporters will be able to have their last name business displayed on the east or west side of the marquee for $1,000 per month. Tier four supporters will have their business bearing their family’s name displayed on the front of the marquee for $2,000 per month.

Level five supporters can sponsor a letter on the blade or vertical surface of the marquee for $20,000 per letter. The sixth tier, called Pinnacle Supporters, will have their initial or logo on the top of the blade for one year. This support level is $50,000 per year and both are sold out.

Holland Theatre’s new Executive Director, Greg Titus, sees only good things on the horizon for Holland Theatre.
